It happened again. XXL Magazine recently revealed it’s 2011 Freshman cover and in all honesty I’m in shock that it might actually be worse than all the previous ones. This is discouraging to me because I felt as though since my blogging career started almost 5 years ago I was making some headway in the Hip Hop publishing world. All I need as proof to the contrary is this magazine cover. My influence is clearly negligible given what I’m seeing.

There were 11 freshmen selected by XXL and I often need to physically look at the list to remember who’s on it both because I don’t listen to most of them or hold them in any high regard or because I don’t know who they are. At first I was heated and I took to Twitter to rant about the list days ago (which had French Montana on it so it was partly erroneous) which led me to rattle off a list of emcees that were far more deserving. I then wrote the first draft of this very blog listing 25 emcees (male and female) that should’ve made XXL’s list instead.

After I re-read my blog the next day, I decided to make my rounds and see how the Hip Hop bloggerverse reacted to the list. I saw that there was quite a bit of outrage and several other alternate lists floating around. It was then that I scrapped my list. Been there. Done that. Dre took me in his suitcase when he went. This is what I do supposedly. I see the major Hip Hop publications drop the ball repeatedly so I swoop in and do their jobs for them for free. Not this time I won’t. Fuck ‘em. I wash my hands of this fiasco.

What this means is that XXL can just go on ahead and pick all of the retards, wack rappers with connections or children they want and I won’t even bat an eyelash. I’ll just treat them like that crazy homeless man who screams epithets & insults at everyone that passes by. Ignore them. After all, that what you tend to do to people that spout nonsense endlessly and exhibit they have no hold on the real world and don’t base their views on real, tangible things such as substance. Why waste your time yelling at them for they know not what they do.

Let’s think about this. I’m an early adopter. I’m about 5 years ahead of the game, it’s been documented and proven repeatedly over the years. If I’m fed up with Hip Hop publications and their bullshit lists already then it’s only a matter of time before the general public does.

In 2006, I was putting people onto Dubstep, a kid from Toronto called Drake and this rapper from Pittsburgh named Wiz Khalifa. Now Britney Spears is using Dubstep producers and Drake & Wiz Khalifa are at the Grammy’s and all of the radio. How many things do I need to be right about before people begin to listen? I don’t know if I care to find out to be perfectly honest.

Eric over at Bloggerhouse is making his alternative list of Freshmen right now. If you’ve been paying attention then you already know how I feel about the situation. I’m sick of holding people’s hands and yelling into the void. Miss me with asking me my reaction to this XXL list so you can sit around watch me go off like I’ve done in the past. Fuck all that. Continue to slowly kill your own brand and credibility with each horrible list until no one cares what you write. Afterwards, call me when they’re dead so I can get paid for writing what I think for a change.
One.
